At 2 today, the DFA's Grassroots All-star race will close and a progressive Democrat challenging a Republican incumbant will recieve an endorsement and with it a lot of money (previous Grassroots All-stars have made up to $67,000). I firmly suggest that you go to the Grassroots All-star contest and vote for Jerry McNerney for Congress. There are two very good reasons why.

Reason #1: Who McNerney is running against

Richard Pombo has the worst environmental record of anyone in Congress. He has championed bills which would resume whaling, drill for oil off the coast of California and in the ANWR, gut the endangered species act, sell off national parks, and more. He has been named by the League of Conservation Voters, one of the largest environmentalist groups, as one of their "Oil Slick Seven" He co-sponsored the Solomon Amendment, which bars federal funding from any college that refuses to accommodate discriminatory employers (which incudes military recruiters) and supports prayer in schools. He has also been rated by the Citizens for Responcibility and Ethics in Washington as one of the 13 most corrupt politicians in Congress, putting him in the same crowed as Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Rep. Randy Cunningham (R-CA), Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL), Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA), Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH), Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ), Rep. Charles Taylor (R-NC), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT), Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN), and Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA). He's got deep ties with Abermoff, Delay, and the Bush administration (Cheney has already come to fundraise). In general, he's just plain bad news.

Reason #2: Who McNerney is

Jerry's passion is alternative energy and he will bring a knowledge of alternative energy currently absent in Congress. Since 1985, he has worked with US Windpower (Kenetech), PG&E, FloWind, and The Electric Power Research Institute to promote alternative energy. Today he is the CEO of a start-up company that will manufacture wind turbines. During his career in wind energy, McNerney has contributed to saving the equivalent of 8,300,000 tons of carbon dioxide – the main greenhouse gas – as well as other harmful pollutants. Jerry is in favour of universal health care because he believes that medical decisions should be between the patient and the doctor not the insurance company and because it will help keep jobs in the United States (General Motors pays $1400 per car in health care, Chrysler $1300, and Ford $1200, if the government would pick up the cost, they would be able to better compete with foriegn manufacturing). Additionally, Jerry favours Rep. Murtha's plan for pull-out of Iraq.

In 2004, Jerry's son called him up from the Middle East, his Air Force division being stationed in either Afghanistan or Iraq, and told his father that because there were no Democrats running in the primary on his absentee ballot that he had written in his fathers name. He told Jerry that in 2001 he had stood up for America by joining the Air Force and now it was Jerry's turn to stand up for America. Jerry accepted this challange and ran a write-in campaign to get onto the November ballot. He succeeded and ran a race against Pombo. He ran this race without any money or help from state or national Democratic organizations because they deemed Richard Pombo unbeatalbe. It was a self-perpetuating prediction. Despite no money or party support, Jerry took more votes than anyone has ever gotten against Pombo. Now it has been proven that Pombo is vulnerable and the national and state parties are starting to pay attention. Pombo's vulnerability was only more exposed when in the Republican primary, Pombo failed to obtain two-thirds of the vote even while running against the very liberal former Republican Congressman Pete McCloskey. Jerry has already recieved the endorsement of Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriot Fund and is in the second round of both the DFA's Grassroots All-star contest and Mark R. Warner's Map Changers contest . McNerney is up against Pombo's huge campaign coffers (it's easy for a Congressman to make a lot of money if they are willing to whore themselves out to the oil companies) and needs every penny he can get. The following is my formal statements of objection towards my removal from the student body elections:



   The first issue on this matter is whether or not the original poster, sporting the phrase “Jeremy L. Wolff for Junior Class Vice President Because the President Won’t Die”, was appropriate. The final slogan on the poster, “Because the President Won’t Die” is a reference to the job of the Vice President of the United States. The main purpose of the Vice President is to fill in for the President if the President should happen to die. The poster pokes fun at the candidate running by stating that the only reason to vote for them is because the candidate will not have any real power.
    The Leadership Adviser deemed the poster unfit in violation of the prohibition against negative campaigning, and due to the possibility of misinterpretation. The candidate stated that such objections had very little backing. As a result, the candidate’s entry in the election was unduly threatened. The Leadership Adviser asked for the “adulteration” of the poster and suggested cutting the poster so that the disputed line would not be present. If this had been done, the poster would have conveyed a solemn and stern attitude not representative of the candidate. Hoping to retain a more approachable image, the candidate modified the poster by placing a “censored” sticker over the disputed line. The candidate was retained the approachable image while still removing the disputed section. In addition, the “censored” sticker expressed the candidate’s disagreement with the necessity to censor the poster.
    This leads to the second issue, the freedom of speech. Each candidate was allotted a few minutes to give a speech with the purpose of drawing in voters. The speech presented by the candidate in question contained cynical humor. This type of humor was used with the knowledge that a large majority of the Acalanes student body are somewhat cynical of authority in general. Thus the candidate’s the candidate’s goal was to reinforce the approachable image presented in the poster. As best recalled, the speech went as follows:

    Hello, I’m Jeremy L. Wolff and I’m running for Junior Class Vice President. I could
    ramble on about how I’m dependable because I do activities A, B, and C, or that I’m
    responsible because I participate in D, E, and F but I’m not going to because I
    believe that everyone here is dependable and responsible and further more, I do not
    believe the qualities are of much importance. In my experience I have never heard
    of a school that has shut down due to ineffective student administration and, I
    suspect that if I told you I would be so ineffective that they would shut the school
    down, you’d probably vote for me even quicker. On that premise, vote
    Jeremy L. Wolff for Junior Class Vice President, yeah.

Although this speech did play upon the audience’s skepticism of the electoral process, it was not meant to be serious but rather humorous. Further more, it was received in a humorous fashion, as was demonstrated by the presence of sporadic laughter.
    The final issue is the concept of student body elections. An election, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, is “the selection of a person or persons to office by vote”. If the student body elections are to remain elections in any real sense of the word the students must be given the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice. To remove the student body’s ability to vote for a candidate because he or she is communicating a reasonable message well received by the electorate defeats the concept of an election and reinforces the students cynicism more than any poster or speech ever could. If the administration chooses to appoint their student administration without an election, so be it, but it would be an insult to the student body to claim that they are being allowed to exercise their own choice and then to prevent them from doing so.

I got second place in the Drama contest! I'm so incrediably happy, that means I won $200 dollars for that and I had already won $75 for the Lamorinda Peace and Justice thiny. This has been an awesome week.

Had a Sedar last night, just my family but it was nice, Matt came up from Santa Cruz and my Grandmother came. Today my family is having a matzah brie brunch however I wont be there, I've got a AP Euro review thingy at 10 and I'll be leaving it early to go to a call back at Town Hall at 1. I feel a lot less confident about this call back, it involves singing Elton John's Your Song (hence my music selection for the morning). The first problem is I haven't sang since 8th grade, as if that weren't bad enough all the other people who got call backs are in chorus AND last year in chorus they had a pop contest in which they sang, yes you guessed it, Elton John's Your Song. Oh well, maybe there's a non-singing role.

I have given myself the mission of finding enough primary sources and direct quotes from famous women and minorities that preach equal rights and equal responsibility. I have taken this task because my English teacher, Mr. Honda, feels that racism and sexism are only a one direction plague. He feels that women cannot be sexist and that only white people practice racism. Further, he feels that due to this consept it is not racist to say we need a black president but it is to say that we need a white president, it is not sexist to say we need a female president but it is if you say we need a male. This is a position of ignorance, it is hypocritical, and it is not acceptable for a teacher to be preaching. If you find any quotes that support equality, not a Animal Farm style equality but true equality than please give them to me so I can compile a packet to give to Mr. Honda. Thank you.

Well, I'm feeling pretty crappy. I've come to the conclusion that I have no base group of friends. There isn't any group of people who when then think of getting a group together they think of inviting me. Earlier this break I got a call on my cell from Ryan asking if Tyler was with me. No, I said, why do you ask?, he responds well, neither of you have shown up to the movie yet and I assumed you'd be carpooling. This was a strange thought for me seeing how I hadn't heard of any movie. I end up asking Ryan if I could just show up. Upon getting there I find that the group is composed of Ryan, Scott, Tyler, Robert, and Ramsey. Once I get home I ask Tyler why I wasn't invite (he was the one who did the organizing and I thought it would be better to confront the issue than let in grow) his first responce is that I was invited than he begins talking about how he doesn't associate me with that group (note that this is the identical group of people who attend most LAN parties minus Justin, Perry, and I...oh, and Justin and Perry had been invited. Then, realizing that that excuse was as crappy as the first he switched to the idea that I wasn't in his inner circle of friends. I think the conversation ended with him saying something like, alright jeremy, next time I'll invite the whole fucking school. Well, there goes one group.

A few days later I go online skimming through journals and find out in bonnie's journal that bonnie, mimi, and justin are doing something for new years eve...there goes another group I associate myself with.

So it comes down to this, do I leave, say to everyone, to hell with you, if you don't want my company than I'll go find people who do or do I stay, hoping that the last few weeks has been some crazy soap oprah style misunderstanding. I'm currently leaning towards the former not the latter but I know that if I do that I'll be labled as the next Tyler, I'll be considered that kid who abandonned friends in attempt to be cool...well, I'm not trying to hide it, I'm fishing for complements because right now I feel like I've already been abandonned by all of you.

Yeah, I know that sounds sappy.

The most fun committee I've ever been in. I wrote multiple resolutions and felt I had the upper hand most of the time. In the end I got second place but had I done the second of 2 position papers I would have won. This was disappointing partly because both the chairs told me they liked me more and thought I did better but said I didn't win pointwise...seems kindof like the electoral college...also, had I won Acalanes would have been in a 3 way tie for first for best delogation, instead we lost...yes, we lost at Watsonville, the place which last year we got every gavel and every repature...oh well...was lots of fun, felt I got to get to know Hunter and Paul better...I already knew the others...

Halloween weekend:

Cast dinner at mels:
Fun, really met Dillan for the first time, I could definatly see myself hanging out with that group more. *note, this does not mean not hanging out with current friends* Also, got to know Clau, I've got a lot of respect for that guy. I hope by my senior year I'm nearly as much of a drama-don geek as he is but I doubt I'll achieve such a goal.

Video Scavenger hunt:
Started off kindof crumby, Clau and Dillan imediatly chose their teams leaving me, Tuni, Will, Brian, Grace, Misha, and Alex. My group ended up being Alex, Misha, Grace, and I. Started off seeming good, we got tons of costumes and props from my house but after one or two scenes the group fell apart. I ended up joining Clau's group and Grace joined Dillan's, the others just quit. Once I got in a real group it kicked ass. We did one centered around me playing sax in front of California Pizza Kitchen *note that I haven't picked up my sax in at least 3 years*

Mim's party
Lots of fun, not much actually conversing but still fun just being with awesome people. Watched fight club again, not as good the second time but still awesome. Met tons of new people. Good stuff.

Kristen's party:
Not as many people as I expected, just Kristen, Justin, Stephan, Pilar, and Sean. Started off hand out candy and watching Justin try to look up Kristen's skirt. One time she got a bit annoyed and got the kids to throw their candy at him, about an hour later they came back asking if they could throw some more. We then went trick or treating, lots of fun, found out that Kristen, Justin Stephan, and Pilar are all wimps.

Play:
The play kicked ass of course, I did well, felt like a veteran, felt like I should have gotten a larger role *cough* bango *cough*, had lots of fun.

Well that stunk. So I get to the dance and hang out with Victor, Ellie, Pilar, Kristen, Lauren, Brian, etc. and have fun. I'm trying to keep track of where Chelsea is but I don't have the guts to ask her (how does that work, I had already asked her before) plus I thought I rather dance with her for the slow songs then the rap so I waited. At about 9:45 I went to get a glass of water and saw Chelsea leaving. It disappoints me so much, I really liked her and it was such a breakthrough for me to ask her to the dance and then for me not to ask her to dance was such shit. I ended up sitting outside depressed for most the rest of dance. Looking back I should have stayed in and tried to have fun, but I think subconsciously I was proving to myself how much I liked her. "Come on Jeremy, if you wallow in misery another 5 minutes it'll show that you really like her."

Well, on the bright side I'm getting a lot of material for if I ever get around to writing an indi movie.

Thursday:
Went to Model UN meeting and found out that I got China on ECOSOC for Watsonville. This with my China on HRC at Contra Costa puts me with the topics of Child Labour, SARS, Torture, and Religious Intolerance. Shame that I didn't get any topics China would be good with...oh...wait... Then after school I asked Chelsea to Homecoming, it's amazing how hard it is for me to get myself up to saying something simple like "would you go to homecoming with me". I went to play rehearsal and once everything settled down enough to get started (this normally takes 15 minutes or so) Egg informed me I didn't need to be there and that I should come tomorrow. Due to the time it took I missed the bus and had to get my mom to give me a ride, oh well.

Friday:
Learned that orthodontists are morons. I'm supposed to get my braces off in a few weeks and they sent me a letter a few days ago saying they'd be putting in a retainer. They had never said this before so I felt very lied to. Once I got there they explained that the lower retainer is just to tiny pieces of metal that connect to your teeth and the top one is normal...well why don't you call the bottom one something else? Then I asked what the worst case senario would be if I didn't wear the top one and he told me that I might get a gap between my front two teeth...gasp! Went back to school, did alchemy in Chem, substitute in English so nothing really happened, school got out early for the homecoming carnival. I wouldn't have gone but I had play rehearsal at 3:30 so I had to stay. Had play rehearsal, came home, watched presidential debates, saw more missed opportunities by Kerry, then at about 11 I decided I wanted to take a walk so I wandered around town for an hour and then went home. The only places that were open were Kwik Stop, Longs, Safeway, and the Roundup Saloon. Lafayette, the city that never sleeps.

Today:
Woke up very early, 8, and now writing this. Homecoming dance is tonight but I don't know how I'm getting there...oh well, I'll find a way.

My grandmother on my mother's side died this morning. I feel kind of guilty because I'm not that sad. My grandmother has had Alzhiemers for as long as I can remember and in recent years she has had it very bad. Because of her Alzhiemers I never got to know her at all. As I see it, death will be easier on her and easier on my mother who had been left with all the responcibility for my Grandmother. Both of her brothers live far away and when they do visit didn't visit my grandmother. I guess I'm relieved because life for my mother will be so much easier now, still I feel a twang of guilt for not feeling sad...makes me think of Daria (Episode 13: Misery Chick).

Yuck, I had a driving lesson with my mom today and I'm still pissed off. We're driving down a road, I'm going 5 mph below the speed limit with 2 people right behind me and my mom is yelling at me to slow down, so I do, so now I'm going 10 mph below the speed limit, there are 3 people behind me and my mom makes me pull over to the side because I was going to fast. Arg!

Will and Perry

Okay, seeing how my journal has become the battle ground for this war between Will and Perry I feel I should give my 2 cents.

Before either of you reads these, you should realize that these are only the negative opinions I hold of you, in addition to these are so many positive ones that there wouldn't be room to post. Overall, I really like both of you.

Will:

What you did was wrong, you were rude, irrational, acted only for yourself. You placed your happiness above everyone else even someone whom you claimed to love (or I assume claimed to love I don't have conversations, all I have is information from both parties). Right now you need to except that what you did was wrong and apologize. I see it that all the bad things with you or in the past and right now you are not being an ass, though I might be wrong. This does in no way excuse you from these things and you must bear the consequences of your actions but the consequences will lessen if you admit you were wrong to do them. I would suggest that you admit that you were wrong to Perry and continue to seek his forgiveness, if he refuses however, give him some time, he is still angry and will take a while to cool down, give him that time. If you keep hounding him for forgiveness he'll be constantly remembering that he's angry at you and you'll be placing all the power in his hands, you don't want either of those.

Perry:

Calm down. Yeah, Will was a jerk, he was rude, irrational, and acted only for himself but that was the past, plus, I might add, you haven't been the perfect little soul either, but I'm not going to get into that, it's irrelevant. You need to except that the past is the past and move on. You are pushing for a feud that will in the end benefit no one. Will is asking for forgiveness, even if he hasn't admitted yet that he knows he was wrong, to ask for forgiveness is admitting that there is something that he knows he needs to be forgiven for. Here's where you can be the bigger man. He may have done some fucked up things but he didn't drag everyone into a stupid feud. You can end it all right now, take advantage of that and be the bigger man. Oh, and I am ashamed that you have threatened him with fights and such. If I hear a word of you either provoking him into a fight or fighting him I will personally find your teacher and get him to stop teaching you, there are no martial arts’ teachers in the country who would train someone so they can become a bully, and that is what you are being when you threaten him.

These are my comments, and I will stick with them and bear the repercussions whatever they may be.

Okay Will, I found something for me to be depressed about again, I hope your happy.

I just realized that I am boring, I have no interesting quirks, no fun things in my personality, I'm just there. I don't have any secrets or weird traits or anything. At least a week ago or so I had the "In love with a girl who I couldn't get" characterist/quirk. Now I got over her and don't even have that.
